Talks about…
Being Busy “Learning” is Equally as Important as
Being Busy “Doing”
I was recently invited to make a presentation to a group of entrepreneurs. The parent organization hosted the day for individual franchise owners from across Ontario.
In preparation for the event I requested a list of names and phone numbers for people who would be attending the event. I then called several of them and conducted a telephone interview to get a better sense of what it was like to be in their shoes, in their business. At the end of my conversation I would say, “I am looking forward to seeing you at the seminar”. Some of them responded by saying, “I hope to be there, but things have been pretty busy lately, and I might not make it.”
Have you ever noticed how people are usually never short of being “busy”. We are always “doing”. To be successful in business and in life we need to understand that it is equally as important to take time to be “learning” as it is to be “doing” or “accomplishing”.
After my session I spoke to some of the attendees and more than one told me, “I wasn’t going to come to this seminar, because I had so much to do, but I did and I am so glad that I did.”

Take the time to “Sharpen Your Saw”. It energizes you and your life!

When it comes to being too busy to hone our skills, I often think of Dr. Stephen Covey’s book, “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”. His Habit #7 is called “Sharpening the Saw”. When you and I have the wisdom to stop all our “doing” and take time to renew our perspective not on WHAT we do but HOW we do it, we can save ourselves a lot of stress and possible
“burn out.”
So, the next time you get invited or have the opportunity to be “Learning”, rather than “Doing”—get smart and take it. There is a great probability you will be glad you did.
I hope you have become more aware of the importance of taking time from being “busy”
to Learn and Grow and become more of your Absolute Best Version of Yourself…
